Frequently Asked Questions
How do you charge for lessons?
Lessons are charged by the hour. My single hour rate is £42 and I also offer a 10 hour package, costing £380. Lessons are paid for in advance at the point of booking. You can pay via bank transfer or cash, whichever works best for you.
Where do you teach?
I'm based in Wokingham and teach in the Reading test area. I'm happy to travel anywhere between Bracknell and Reading for lessons. I also teach students taking tests in Farnborough.
What car do you teach in?
My dual control teaching car is a Ford Fiesta, but I'm happy to teach in your car if that's what you'd prefer!
Do you teach manual or automatic?
My Ford Fiesta is a manual transmission. However if you want to learn to drive an automatic and have one you're insured on, I'm happy (and qualified) to teach in that too.
Do you have a teaching qualification?
Yes, I'm a Government Approved Driving Instructor.
When was your last DBS check?
My latest DBS check was approved at the beginning of 2021.
Can I be picked up and dropped off in different locations?
Yes! I'm happy for pick up and drop off locations to be different. I find it's easiest to discuss logistics over a call, so get in touch and we can figure it out.
Do you offer mock tests or refresher lessons?
I offer mock tests and one-off lessons for students who may have learned elsewhere, need a refresher or feel they'd benefit from another pair of eyes. Get in touch so we can discuss what you need.
What will I do in my first lesson?
During your first lesson, we'll cover the basics and take things at a pace that suits the individual. I'll pick you up from our agreed location and drive us to an area nearby with quiet roads. We'll then switch seats and get you settled and in position. We'll go through the controls on the car before walking through the steps for how to stop and start. Once you're comfortable with the theory, we'll put it into practice, nice and slow. If you're feeling confident with starting, driving a short distance and stopping, we'll then move onto steering and gears. We'll keep practicing everything we've been through, and that's probably as far as we'll get! If we both feel you're progressing well we can get you driving towards your drop off point, taking the quiet roads.
What do lessons typically involve?
We'll meet at our agreed pick up point and you can take over in the driving seat from there (as long as you're comfortable to). We'll always start with a discussion of what we want to practice during the lesson and a recap of what to remember from previous lessons. At that point, we'll be ready to get out on the roads and practice, practice, practice. This could include navigation, manoeuvres, dual carriage ways, emergency stops and a whole host of other skills you'll need to master! A key part of learning to drive is understanding how to plan and react to the situation around you, so we'll always make this a focus. Ultimately, what we cover will be driven by where we both feel you need practice.
